- Training in which a runner alternates between running and jogging over set distances.
- Training in which an athlete alternates between two activities, typically requiring different speeds, degrees of effort, etc.
I love that movie!
Anyhoodles, moving on! Interval training is very beneficial, in that you get the cardio, or high intensity training and then the benefits of rest and recovery. Rinse and repeat several times and you've got yourself a great workout. Your Online Fitness explains HIIT and other interval training methods for fat loss.
When I personally head out for a run, I like to start off with a 5-10 minute warm up (brisk walk) then I run for 5-10 minutes, (more if I am feeling especially energetic) walk for 3-5 minutes and repeat for as long as I want or am able to.
- How do you do your Interval Training?
- Do you bike, run, swim or walk?
- If, while out on your walk/run, you spy a rare spotted dingbat in the tree ahead of you, do you turn around and quickly go home or do you stop and chat awhile?
- Did I make you smile? I was hoping to.
Godspeed...this comes from the Middle English expression "God spede (you)", a wish for success and fortune for one setting out on an enterprise, voyage, adventure, or travels. It may also mean good luck.

I like interval training also, I like to alternate between watching Perry Mason and Monk!
ReplyDeleteHey me too! Lol, thanks for stopping by bud!
DeleteI love interval training as well! Thanks again for the follow!! :0)
ReplyDeleteKeep on keeping on, survivor! You are an inspiration!!
DeleteI wish that when I had VERY first started running, I knew about intervals. They are such a great way to learn your limits and increase your mileage. And they're a great way to increase your speed! :o)
ReplyDeleteI agree Ali, they are so important and fun to do!
DeleteI do it too. Run than walk etc.
ReplyDeleteHey Darlene, thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteMy interval training consists of walking quickly to the kitchen for snacks and walking slowly back to the computer or sofa.
ReplyDeleteLol, I have those types of intervals too, once in a great while
DeleteI never used to do much speedwork, but I just started doing some intervals for my speed training. Basically I warm up for about 10 minutes, then alternate 1 minute of hard running with one minute of walking. I do between 8-10 repeats and then cool down for 5-10 minutes. It is quite a workout and it's hard but I always feel great afterwards.
ReplyDeleteEM, it is a hard workout, but at the end you feel so accomplished..blessings sweet girl!
DeleteI am definitely a running sort, though I did just recently get a bike. I don't do a whole lot of interval training when I run though. I mostly just find my pace and stick to it as long as I can.
ReplyDeleteGeoff at ROFL Initiative
Geoff, thanks so much for stopping by, you should try some speed intervals, they are great for improving your overall running.
DeleteI didn't realize rest & recovery was part of the exercise program. When my Spin instructor lets us rest, I always just thought he was being nice and didn't want to perform CPR on anyone. Seriously. I think I'm going to die each time I get on that bike. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post! See you for "K."
Dana @ Waiter, drink please!
Dana, nope your instructor is doing an interval training...it is nice to rest after going all out on one of those spin bikes...I have done spin class several times and I love/hate it!
